Fishing Report – May 22, 2024:

Here we are…Silver Creek reopens for the season on Saturday, May 25th and we couldn’t be more excited! Flows are wonderful at 145 CFS and we expect great conditions this season.

Now is the time to stock up on essential flies. You’ll need Blue-Winged Olives, PMDs, Calibaetis, ants, beetles, and of course, Brown Drakes.

While most local fisheries remain closed, fishing on Magic Reservoir is really picking up. Streamers, leeches, crayfish patterns, Clouser minnows, chironomids, midges, and small nymphs are all productive. Check out areas like Myrtle Point, the Narrows, Hot Springs Landing, and the bay at the dam.

This is the season at Picabo Angler when all the new flyfishing gear has arrived. Here’s a sample of what’s new in the shop – rods from Lamson, Sage, Scott, and Redington, reels from Lamson and Hardy, lines, leader, and tippet from RIO and Scientific Angler, packs & bags from Simms, Fishpond, and Umpqua, sunglasses from Smith, Suncloud, and Bajio, clothing & footwear from Simms, Grunden’s, and RepYourWater, waders & wading boots from Simms, and a ton of Picabo Angler logo apparel and hats. Also, we are BURSTING with new flies; we even had to order a new fly bin! We’ve got awesome patterns from Umpqua, RIO, Montana Fly Company, Fulling Mill, Solitude, and JD Flies. And while we certainly have the BEST selection of flies for Silver Creek, we can outfit you with flies for any fishery in the West…come check it out!

The Picabo Angler Opening Weekend party is on track to be bigger and better than ever. Starting on Friday night, May 24th, at 5PM, we’ll have live music by Hillfolk Noir, craft beer from Sawtooth Brewery, dinner by our own Picabo Angler Grill, raffles, and new gear from some of our vendors. It’s a great time to stop by the shop to meet our guides and staff, pick out some of your favorite flies, cast some of the new fly rods in stock, and catch up with friends. We’ll be here rain or shine, so be sure to come see us!

Happy Fishing Everyone!
